Surf and Rock Review: Lombego Surfers-Let It Rip

https://lombegosurfers.net/

When Anthony Lombego sings, he sounds like the legendary New York Doll Johnny Thunders. When he plays the guitar, it's whoa! The title of the CD says it all: Let It Rip.

When vocals are part of the scheme of things, the group sounds nothing like a surf-instro group. They are punk-rock-garage through and through. On the flip side, it was special when Lombego and his troops decided to go the surf-rock route. There isn't a sound that can match the incredible power of surf combined with electrifying rock. This trio is locked in and comes at you with both barrels on this release.

I have always enjoyed the diversity of this group, but I must admit that the instro side is what tickles my fancy. The cuts on this CD are the best I have heard from this group. Once they get you in a groove with their signature punk-garage style, a raw and energetic sound reminiscent of the underground punk scene of the 70s, they switch to what they are best equipped to dish out, monster swells of surf-rock-instro!

One can't help but wonder how their instrumental tunes would sound unplugged. They would retain and enhance their impact with a twist.

Lombego's guitar work is exceptional, and it would easily transition to acoustic without losing any of its power. Their potential for making an impact acoustically could pique my curiosity and may do the same for you.

It's time for America to discover the Lombego Surfers, a band that brings a fresh and unique sound to the punk, garage, and surf rock genres. Their new CD, Let It Rip, is a testament to their musical prowess and a release that should not be missed.

Surf Instro Review: The O' Hara's-Devil's Desert

Welcome to the Devil's Desert, the hottest place on Earth. This music roars at you like a ball of fire, letting you know it has arrived. The O'Hara's are a steaming locomotive headed your way filled with twang, reverb, and feedback. The group launches its all-out attack of flamenco-tinged surf-rock-instro upon your restless reverb-starved soul with 10 tracks of red-hot instro madness.

This is not music for steadfast traditional surf lovers. It is an onslaught and reworking of anything traditional. Of course, everything we hear today is just an extension of the music created back in the '60s. All due respect is given to that era and its importance to the genre.

I enjoy the electricity and abandon of this style of surf-instro. At times, the pace can be frenetic and offbeat. Only the true lover of instrumental guitar will appreciate this onslaught upon the eardrums. With talent like this, there is plenty of room for improvisation. Expect more noise from this group in the future.

It's one wild ride.

Surf Instro Review: Thee Andrews Surfers - Rip-Off!

Rip Off! is a statement that's heard loud and clear. It is heard through the intensity of the music and the sincere and truthful liner notes provided by King Koen. I concur with the thoughts expressed in the enlightening commentary.

There is plenty of high gloss, overproduced crap that is making millions right now. If you are getting sucked into the mainstream and haven't had a good reality check lately, wake up!

Don't drown in the sea of pretty faces of talent created by technology and advertisements. They want you to buy into their plastic world (i.e., "Two Minutes To Rip You Off"). This is not a factor when listening to a powerful platter of super-charged surf-instro like Thee Andrews Surfers provide.

This raw and exciting session of surf-instro by Thee Andrews Surfers is a testament to their spontaneity and originality. Their music covers most of the sub-genres, providing a perfect variety. A few cleverly created sounds are born from this spontaneity and creativity. They breathe new life into forties standards within the instro realm. The elements of surf, instro, garage, trash, and punk are all woven into this driven and invigorating source of musical delight, making it a must-listen for any music enthusiast.

It was nice to hear something new and fresh. The harmonica is used in place of the usual organ or saxophone, which makes this a new and refreshing experience. The extreme varieties are a joy to hear when the group can use more than one influence within a song. This works for me. This is a great CD; get it.
